♥ History ♥

He was born into the cursed Sohma family. This family's curse makes certain family members transform into members of the Jyūnishi (Japanese zodiac). Fate having chosen him as the spirit of the snake, Ayame has been forced to keep his animal form a secret by not hugging members of the opposite sex or getting too cold, and has grown up mostly excluded from his close family because of the curse.

He now lives outside of the family's premises, as the head of the family, Akito, didn't want him around. He now runs his own store, in which he designs outfits that further 'Manly Romance', which are basically popular female outfits for men (although they fit women as well!).

Despite his free look on manly romance and physical lust as a whole, Ayame had one important person in his life who he looked up to for being all the things he wasn't; Hatori Sohma. In a strange mixture of adoration and and admiration, he had grown to care for Hatori as more than a friend. In Sigil, with the pressure and complications of their family not pressing on to them as urgently, they have decided to see how their relationship would form beyond that of mere friendship.

♥ Personality ♥

Ayame comes across as very hyper and self-absorbed, and talks loudly with no regard to what anybody else is saying. His loud laugh and inappropriate physical touches often cause people discomfort.

The reality is that he doesn't understand people's emotions very well. When he tries to be friendly he mostly comes off as arrogant and proud, because he starts listing all of his qualities. He's very blunt about his feelings and tends to forget other people have different moral values than he does. As a result, he's not easily embarassed while the people around him tend to be for him.

He's determined and persistant if he finds a 'cause' he can devote himself to, especially in closing the gap between his relationship with his brother, or to promote 'Manly Romance'.

Despite all this, he does have a more serious side, which surfaces only rarely. He cares deeply for his friends and family and does not like to see them get hurt, and will attempt to cheer them up at any cost. He sometimes mourns the choices he made when he was younger, as these choices pushed his brother away, and he's just beginning to take some responsibility for his actions.

His biggest fear in life is to be alone and abandoned, and to have an 'empty' relationship with those he cares for. When arriving in Sigil and finding nobody of his family, he wished to create his own family, his own warmth. He clutched on to Allen and L and is continuing to do so even now, determined to care for them like he can't care for his own brother. Despite the love he gets returned from Hatori Sohma, he is always looking for more validation of his own 'amazingness'.
